Correspondence dated February 8, 2021 from Helen Boyd, Coordinator Comox Valley Nurses for Health & the Environment, Lindsay McGinn, Facilitator, Community Health Network, and Betty Tate, Member, Coordinating Circle, Community Health Network regarding feedback on the financial plan for the Regional Growth Strategy and a proposed resolution to be forwarded to UBCM regarding community climate action plans for receipt. THAT the following resolution be forwarded to the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities 2021 AGM and Convention for consideration:

WHEREAS a total of 493 municipalities across Canada adopted Climate Emergency Declarations, and in British Columbia as of early 2019 dozens of municipalities have done so, the time to develop clear actionable Community Climate Action Plans is urgent;

AND WHEREAS it has been demonstrated that collaborative, cooperative planning processes increase the efficiency and maximize the impacts of the investments that all levels of government are making in assisting communities to develop Community Climate Action Plans with clearly articulated targets that respond to the increasingly urgent needs of mitigating climate change impacts;


THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities request that the provincial government provide sustained financial support for local community climate action planning that serve to meet the targets set out by the goals of CleanBC and implement responses to climate impacts throughout British Columbia.
